Parts of Speech

Latin and English have parts of speech.  They are extremely important.

1.  A noun  names a person, place, thing, or idea. 

    e.g.  house, car, school, book, pen, dog, freedom

2.  A verb shows action or state of being.

    e.g. run, fly, laugh, walk, talk, whisper

3.  An adjective modifies or describes a noun.

    e.g.  big, tall, wide, studious

4.  An adverb modifies or described an adjective, a verb, or another adverb.

    e.g. very, really, extremely, not

5.  A pronoun takes the place of a noun.

    e.g. he, who, me, you, her

6.  A preposition shows position or relation to another word.

    e.g. to, from, below, near, at

7.  An interjection shows excitement or intense emotion.

    e.g. Wow! Hooray! whoops, pshaw

8.  A conjunction connects or joins two or more words, phrases, or clauses.

     e.g. and, but, or , yet
